Introducing the New Microsoft Teams
Microsoft is rolling out the trial of the new Microsoft Teams next month. The new app is built on a foundation of speed, performance, flexibility, and intelligence—delivering up to two times faster performance while using 50 percent less memory so you can save time and collaborate more efficiently.
The new Teams is faster, simpler, and more flexible than ever. In the new Teams, you can switch between apps, respond to chat messages, and join meetings and calls more quickly while using less battery and memory. Our team has been testing it internally since the first release and can confirm that it is much faster than “old” teams.
The “Try the new Teams” button will be automatically enabled in August. Users don’t need to use it. However, if you do and notice bugs, you can revert back until Microsoft makes the new version mandatory in October.
Many of the features you know and love from classic Teams are already in the new experience, but others, like breakout rooms and 3rd party apps, still need to be worked on and may not be available (yet).
Limitations are outlined on the Adoption Page: New Microsoft Teams (Preview), under “What’s coming later this calendar year”.
How to use the new Microsoft Teams in August:
- Open the Teams desktop app on your Windows Device
- Turn on the “Try the new Teams” toggle at the top of Teams
- Select “Get it now” from the pop-out dialogue. The new teams will start installing.
- Your Teams app will reboot to open the new Teams
If you don’t see the “Try the new Teams” button, it’s not enabled for your company yet, and you’ll need to wait.
